Parshah Masei

The map of the journey

Torah lists every stop in the wilderness. Every place we stayed, even briefly, is worth remembering.

The recitation of the journeys, forty two stops, is a kind of spiritual cartography. The commentators wonder why. The answer, at least in part: we are shaped by the stops as much as by the destination.

Some of us skip past our own journey, embarrassed by the slower stretches. Torah insists the itinerary itself is holy.

This week, list ten stops on your own map. Not achievements. Places. Notice what each one gave you.
