The command lech lecha is famously double: go for yourself, go to yourself. Avraham leaves land, birthplace, and father's house, the three most powerful sources of inherited identity, to discover who he actually is in relationship with G-d.
We inherit far more than we realize: assumptions, fears, ambitions that were never truly ours. Real spiritual life eventually asks us to leave some of that behind.
