The word eikev, 'because,' but literally 'heel', points to the small mitzvot we tend to trample. Torah lives in those too.
Rashi hears in eikev the mitzvot we tread on with our heels, the ones we consider minor. The parshah insists that those are precisely where the covenant is tested.
Our integrity is not measured by the visible commitments. It is measured by what we do when no one is watching, in the details that would be easy to skip.
