Parshah Ki Teitzei

Ethics in the ordinary transaction

Return the lost object. Send away the mother bird. Build a parapet on your roof. Holiness is a thousand small kindnesses.

Ki Teitzei contains more mitzvot than any other parshah, many of them about the tiny ethical textures of ordinary life. Torah refuses to be interested only in the grand.

A society is not made holy by ceremony alone. It is made holy by returned wallets, safe balconies, honest scales, kind treatment of workers and animals.

This week, do one small mitzvah you would ordinarily skip. Return the cart. Speak the truth. Build the parapet.

Make it personal

Your Hebrew birthday opens a personal doorway into this parshah.
