Parshah Shoftim

Justice you must pursue

'Tzedek tzedek tirdof.' Not do, pursue. Justice is a chase, not a checkbox.

The doubled word tzedek, justice, justice, has drawn commentary for millennia. Some read it as: pursue justice through just means. Others: pursue it in every domain, public and private.

The word tirdof, pursue, is telling. Justice does not sit still. It runs from us; we must run after it.

This week, name one pursuit of justice, however small, that you have let slow down. Resume the chase.
