Parshah Rosh Hashanah

What is truly ours

Candle Lighting: 6:55 PM EST Montreal - Tzedakah (Charity) and Mitzvah (Good Deed) Reminder

Rosh Hashanah is upon us and asks us to examine not only our actions, but also our assumptions about ownership. We look at what we have accumulated. Money, possessions, relationships and even the stories we tell ourselves and we should ask: What part is truly mine? What part belongs to someone else? And what part was entrusted to us for a time?

Life is not always easily divided. We can calculate the value of possessions, yet struggle to measure the value of trust, loyalty, time and memories.

On Rosh Hashanah, G-d weighs not our possessions, but our integrity. The real question is not, “What can I claim?” but, “What is fair?” May we enter the New Year with honesty, humility, and a willingness to return what was never truly ours.
